What Ekhio is

Ekhio is a macOS application that equalizes system audio: it measures how your speakers respond using your Mac microphone and changes sound profile according to the app that is playing, the output that is connected or the time of day.

It requires macOS 14.4 or later and a Mac with Apple Silicon. It is distributed outside the Mac App Store, signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

The 14-day trial

You can use all of Ekhio for 14 days without creating an account and without giving a card. The start date is stored in your Mac Keychain.

When it expires, Ekhio switches off: audio passes through unprocessed and the app stops modifying it. Your measurement, the rules it learned and your presets are kept and come back as soon as you activate a license.

What you buy

A perpetual, non-exclusive license to use Ekhio version 1, for 29 USD plus whatever tax applies in your country. It is a launch price and it may go up for future purchases; what you already bought does not change. It is not a subscription: it does not renew and it is not charged again.

• You can activate it on up to 3 Macs at the same time, and release one from Settings → License to use it on another.
• It includes every version 1 update. A version 2 with major features could be charged separately, with a discount for anyone who already bought.
• The license is for you. Do not resell it, publish it or share it outside your own Macs.
• Do not decompile or redistribute the application.

Who sells it to you

The payment is processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd, acting as merchant of record. That means your purchase contract is with Paddle: they calculate and file the tax for your country, issue the invoice and handle anything related to the payment. On your statement the charge appears under Paddle.

Where it is sold

Ekhio is sold in Mexico and the United States. When you buy, you declare that you are doing so from one of those two countries.

If the billing country the payment provider records turns out to be another one, the purchase is cancelled: you are refunded in full to the same payment method and the license does not activate. It is not a penalty, we simply cannot sell there yet.

The 14-day trial has no such limit: it works in full anywhere, with no account and no card.

How the license works

When you buy you receive a key by email, of the form EKHIO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. You paste it into Ekhio → Settings → License and the app activates it on that Mac.

Activation is the only time the app talks to our server: it registers that Mac and receives a signed receipt that is stored in your Keychain. From then on Ekhio verifies the license offline. If one day we shut the server down, Macs that are already activated keep working.

We may revoke a license if the payment is refunded, disputed or fraudulent use is detected.

Turn the volume up carefully

Ekhio applies gain to your Mac audio. Raising bands raises the sound pressure, and that can damage your hearing or your speakers if you overdo it.

That is why the limiter is always on and cannot be switched off, and the headroom drops by itself when you raise bands. Even so, the volume you listen at is up to you: if something sounds forced or distorts, turn it down.

What we do not promise

Ekhio is delivered as is. We do everything we can to make it work well on every Mac, but we cannot guarantee that it is compatible with all the audio hardware out there, nor that it is free of bugs.

Try the 14 days before you buy: that is exactly what the full, no-card trial is for.

Other than what the next section says, our liability is limited, at most, to what you paid for the license.

What cannot be limited

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

If you buy as a consumer, the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence apply even if these terms say they are governed by Mexican law, and you keep the right to go to the courts of your own country.

Changes

If we change these terms, we publish the new version here with its date. The changes do not affect licenses already bought as far as what you bought is concerned.
